Texas basketball making a lot of headway with 5-Star CG Cason Wallace – Hook’em Headlines

It feels like it won’t be much longer before new head coach Chris Beard gets his first commit in the 2022 Texas basketball recruiting class. Texas men’s hoops is trying to find the same level of success on the recruiting trail for their 2022 and 2023 classes that they did out of the NCAA Transfer Portal so far this offseason.

June was a key month on the recruiting trail so far for Beard and his new coaching staff. Texas had a few key official visits this month, including with five-star forward Kijani Wright and five-star shooting guard Keyonte George.

One of the prospects that is a focal point of the 2022 Longhorns class that has started to rise fast with this staff of late is the five-star Richardson (TX) combo guard Cason Wallace. The 6-foot-3 and 175-pound native of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex has a few key programs on his radar as it seems at this point in time.

Texas looks to be one of about four or five frontrunners in the race to land a commitment from Wallace at the moment. Some of the other key programs to watch in his recruitment right now include the Tennessee Volunteers, Kentucky Wildcats, Baylor Bears, and Arizona Wildcats.

Tennessee and Texas are two of the programs that look to really be making moves with Wallace in the past couple of months. In fact, former Texas head coach Rick Barnes and the Vols are the only program to have offered Wallace in this calendar year whilst getting the chance to host him for an official visit.

The official visit with Tennessee for Wallace came back on June 4. And this is a goal that Beard and the Longhorns should have for the near future in terms of getting Wallace to campus for a visit.

Texas has yet to land their first commitment in the 2022 class. Wallace would be a good way to get things off and running, but he likely wouldn’t be giving out his decision to the Longhorns anytime soon. This recruitment could wind up lasting for a good while.

Texas, Tennessee, Baylor, Arizona, and Kentucky are five of the more than 15 schools on Wallace’s offer sheet. Some of the other significant schools on his offer sheet include the Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, Illinois Fighting Illini, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oklahoma Sooners, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The scholarship offer that Texas sent to Wallace came back on Aug. 10, 2020. But it also bodes well that Texas Tech offered Wallace back when Beard was the head coach in Lubbock.

Wallace could turn into one of the most high-profile targets of the Longhorns 2022 class in the coming months. He ranks as the nation’s No. 15 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 combo guard, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 15 high school prospect, No. 3 combo guard, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas.
