East All-Stars win in basketball – The Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald – Roanoke Chowan News Herald

GREENSBORO – Hertford County’s Daylan Askew had 13 points, joining four of his teammates in double figures here Monday night where the East defeated the West, 116-92, in the annual North Carolina Coaches Association’s High School All-Star game.

The contest was played at the Greensboro Coliseum.

“Daylan was a little nervous to begin with, but he played really well after that,” said veteran Hertford County High School basketball coach Charles Simmons who was in Greensboro to watch the game and attend the annual Coaches Clinic.

“Daylan showed that he belonged there,” said Simmons. “He represented Hertford County extremely well and we were super excited for him and his family to be a part of this All-Star experience.”

The East All-Stars raced out to a 20-0 lead and never trailed. They led 39-15 after one quarter and 54-41 at halftime. The East All-Stars held a 79-68 advantage after three quarters and go on for the 116-92 win.

NC State signee Terquavion Smith of Farmville Central leads the East with a game-high 30 points. Rounding out the East scoring were Matthew Locklear (18) Bradlee Haskell (16) Daylan Askew(13), Charlie Miller (11), Bennie Brooks (9), Leontae Moye (9), Nygie Stroman (8), and Makoa Surigao (2).

Leading the West All-Stars were Daniel Cooper and Chris Ford, both with 20 points.

Askew, a 2021 graduate of Hertford County High School, has signed an athletic scholarship to continue his education and play basketball at Chowan University.
