Michigan State Basketball: You have to love Pierre Brooks’ lofty goals – Spartan Avenue

Pierre Brooks hasn’t been on campus more than a few months and he’s already winning Michigan State basketball fans over with his hard-working attitude and his lofty goals.

We knew going in that he was going to operate the same way he did at the high school level: under the radar and as an underdog. He hasn’t disappointed in his short time in East Lansing, saying all the right things to the media and working hard on the court to earn some Tom Izzo praise.

This week, he had a chance to speak to the media again and, once again, he said all the right things.

But one thing stood out. He spoke about his goals during his time at Michigan State and he said that he wants to hang more banners and be like “another one of those legends” that has come through and had success in East Lansing, according to 247Sports.

While some might just look at this as a freshman making lofty goals for himself and not really knowing what it’ll take, but it’s hard not to believe what he’s saying. He works harder than anyone and if he comes in wanting to be “one of those legends”, I have a feeling he’ll do just that.

Pierre Brooks will be Michigan State basketball fan favorite

Brooks comes to Michigan State after an impressive high school career which was capped with a Mr. Basketball award as well as Michigan’s Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 33.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. He was Mr. Do-Everything for Detroit Douglass, leading his team to a state title at Breslin Center.

A player he kind of reminds me of is Denzel Valentine in the way that he can do a little of everything very well and he works hard. I think, like Denzel, he could be a walking triple-double at Michigan State.

Also like Denzel, I could see him playing any position 1-3 and turning into a legitimate fan favorite by his junior or senior year.

I will admit, it took a couple of years for Denzel to really adjust to college basketball as he made plenty of sloppy mistakes early on by trying to do too much, so Pierre could be the same way, but by his upperclassman years, he was a legend. I also expect that type of trajectory from Brooks.

The 2021 recruiting class has some guys to really get excited about.
