Illinois Basketball: Another top 100 recruit receives an Illini offer – Writing Illini

The Illinois basketball team is looking towards its immediate future, offering Blair Academy’s Otega Oweh.

As the dog days of summer turn into the crisp days of fall, so do the Illinois basketball program’s expectations. Fresh off an NCAA tournament appearance, a Big Ten tournament championship, and the best turnaround in school history, the Illini are looking ahead to future success for years to come.

One of those pieces who will hopefully lead them to that success is a 2022 prospect and Blair Academy shooting guard, Otega Oweh.

Oweh is a 6-foot-4, 180-pound talent who hails from Blairstown, New Jersey. He is currently a four-star recruit and holds offers from Penn State, Brown, and DePaul to name a few.

Oweh was recently offered by the Orange and Blue on August 6, as he took to his Twitter account to make the news official. “Blessed to receive an offer from the University of Illinois,” Oweh wrote on his Twitter account.

The No. 4 player from New Jersey and the No. 11 shooting guard in the country is already making some headway amongst some major programs thus far, as he’ll enter his senior year this upcoming fall.

What would Otega Oweh bring to the Illinois basketball program?

Landing Oweh would be a massive success for the program, especially with him being from the Northeast part of the country. During the 2019-2020 season, Oweh had a breakout year. 433 points, 191 rebounds, and 57 assists were just a few of the many incredible statistics that Oweh put up during his second season.

Production is the key for Oweh. Brad Underwood likes a night-in and night-out player, and he fits that description. Assuming he has another successful year, his recruitment could take a tremendous shift in the months to come.

Illini Nation should keep an eye on Oweh, as his journey has just begun.
