Duke basketball: Jon Scheyer silences critics with supreme class – Ball Durham

Heck, Duke basketball recruiting might even be improving under Jon Scheyer.

Ever since early June when Mike Krzyzewski announced his planned retirement for next spring, those who loathe all things Duke basketball have been pushing a doomsday narrative. They contend that Coach K’s named successor-in-waiting, Jon Scheyer, won’t be able to continue the program’s recent recruiting domination.

How’s their brainwashing campaign working out?

Well, to answer that, let’s look at what these anti-Dukies so often ignore: facts.

Evidence that Duke basketball recruiting is prospering under Jon Scheyer

This week, Jon Scheyer’s first haul as the chief recruiting decision-maker in Durham moved to No. 1 overall on the 247Sports 2022 Team Rankings.

Duke is now the only school with two commits inside the top 10 on the 247Sports 2022 Composite. Five-star small forward Dariq Whitehead recently jumped a spot to No. 5 overall. Meanwhile, five-star power forward Kyle Filipowski has risen from No. 158 at this time last year to No. 8 at the moment.

As for the Blue Devils’ third 2022 commit, four-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt has skyrocketed from No. 163 to No. 56 across the past three weeks alone.

Furthermore, Scheyer and his gang currently boast outright advantages in the eyes of the Crystal Ball for two other high school seniors: five-star small forward Mark Mitchell, who now ranks No. 16, and four-star point guard JJ Starling, who sits at No. 33.

Now, glancing ahead to the 2023 Crystal Ball, only the Duke Blue Devils lead multiple five-star races. Like it or not, they are the perceived frontrunners for small forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who ranks No. 6 among high school juniors, plus point guard Caleb Foster, who appears at No. 12.

Yes, it appears as though all of the haters will now need to start working harder as a group to sell their bogus narrative.
